JOB PURPOSE
The purpose of this job is to ensure that projects and businesses are profitable through effective cost management, contract administration, right procurement, as well as risk and opportunity management. It involves development of strategies that ensure that all systems and processes are well aligned and integrated resulting in value for money in all commercial transactions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide strategic leadership to the commercial team and Quality assure all daily commercial transactions.
- Coordinate and ensure that all commercial systems and processes are well aligned.
- Monitor and evaluate commercial systems, processes, and procedures periodically to ensure value for money and recommend review and make changes with prior approval from Top Management.
- Continuously source, plan and tender for new jobs by ensuring that tender documents contain correct pricing, quotations and information leading to efficient, effective, proactive and winnable bids.
- Ensure cost efficient project delivery to achieve the target net profit margin at all time.
- Continuously improve cash flow by ensuring that commercial managers for the various projects prepare, submit and follow up on Valuation for Payment of Interim Certificates in line with Cash flow schedules.
- Consistently improve commercial awareness in the unit and company in general by periodically undertaking commercial awareness inductions/workshops on all project sites, and conducting commercial audits of operations at sites to check compliance with our procedures and systems
- Continuously improve our contract administration/supply management by ensuring that our sub-contractors and suppliers are managed effectively.
- Continuously improve the commercial management processes and to create more collaborative relationships with our subcontractors and suppliers.
- Ensure right and timely procurement of materials and delivery to project sites.
- Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- A first degree in Quantity Surveying/Construction or Building Technology & Management or related field plus a minimum of eight (8) years commercial management experience, or
- Master’s degree in Construction Management / Project Management or related field plus a minimum of five (5) years commercial management experience, and
- MGhIS /MRICS or FRICS is required.

- Legal understanding relevant to contracts

- Excellent Interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Ms Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
